Kontent Films Partners with PolyBio to Successfully Fund Long COVID Research

“We got together and thought about how
we could pivot our HIV success into treating
Long COVID.”

- Michael Peluso, MD, MHS

What you’re seeing in this film is part of a much larger continuum of science, care, and collaboration for Kontent Films.

This work is rooted in San Francisco, a place long recognized as a global leader in healthcare innovation, patient care, and biomedical research. For generations, the city’s institutions and scientists have advanced groundbreaking discoveries—building pioneering research programs and contributing to work recognized with Nobel Prizes. That legacy has shaped a culture where difficult questions are pursued with rigor, urgency, and a deeply human focus.

Long Covid now sits at the center of that tradition at UCSF. As millions continue to live with persistent, often debilitating symptoms, UCSF researchers are applying decades of hard-won clinical and scientific knowledge to a new and still-unfolding challenge.

In this film, Kontent Films documents a moment inside that effort—capturing scientists who once helped transform HIV from a fatal diagnosis into a manageable condition, now turning those same insights and methodologies toward understanding Long COVID.

As part of a targeted donor campaign supporting the PolyBio Research Foundation and its LIINC Research Program. Our goal was not simply to explain the science, but to translate it—making the stakes, the urgency, and the possibility of progress clear to those with the power to help move the work forward.

That effort succeeded. The campaign fully funded the research initiative featured in the film, enabling scientists to continue their work at the tissue and immune-system level—work that will help unlock clearer diagnostics and future treatments for Long COVID.

Kontent Films is deeply embedded
in San Francisco’s life sciences and
scientific community.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside leading institutions including UCSF, Genentech, and ZSFG—collaborating with researchers, clinicians, and healthcare leaders to help bring complex science into clearer public view.

That proximity matters. It allows us to listen closely, translate responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to a culture where science, storytelling, and civic responsibility intersect. Supporting critical research by helping the right stories reach the people who can move them forward.
