The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller

Academy Award–nominated documentarian Sam Green (The Weather Underground) has joined forces with indie superstars Yo La Tengo for the world premiere of the live documentary, “The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller.” Sam Green will narrate to images, and Yo La Tengo will provide the live music. Interested? This performance will be Tuesday, May 1 at 7:00 and 9:00 PM in SFMOMA’s Phyllis Wattis Theater. You can buy your tickets through the San Francisco Film Society. Get them soon before they sell out!

Back on Tour with Utopia

Filmmakers Sam Green, Dave Cerf and musicians The Quavers are back on the road with Utopia in Four Movements. Currently, they are in Mexico for their first show at the Ambulante Film Festival. Buckminster Fuller Installation and Live Documentary at SFMOMA

Filmmaker Sam Green is creating two documentary projects for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s upcoming exhibition, The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fuller and the Bay Area. The first project is a live documentary called “The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller,” which Green and the band Yo La Tengo will perform on Tuesday, May 1st at 7 and 9 p.m. Hurry and get your tickets for this one before it sells out. The second is a multi-channel documentary installation he’s making with SF-based projection company Obscura Digital. This finished project and more featured works, related to Fuller’s local design legacy, will be presented at the SFMOMA from March 31 through July 29, 2012. Do you remember the 29th annual SFIAAFF trailer we created for Underground Ads and CAAM a year ago? It is kind of like a ‘Where’s Waldo’ drawing of a Sunday afternoon in San Francisco’s Dolores Park, and it was shot with the Phantom Camera at 500 frames per second. Well originally, director Mark Decena wanted a helicopter way in the background. In the end, it didn’t make the cut for good reason. But recently, we found this funny picture from Elastic Creative and Westernized of a helicopter bombarding the foreground. We got a laugh. Thought you might too.

What do you think? Should we have kept the helicopter in?

Director Mark Decena finds the human heart of banking in this :30s for Mechanics Bank. You can view all of our spots, which feature actual customers and premiered during the Winter Olympics, plus photographs by Rob Humphreys on their website I’m A Mechanic.

An interesting note: from a Kontent Films “all in one” production, Mechanics Bank was able to create a television, online, radio and print campaign. Mechanics is also inviting more folks to submit their story. What do you value? You can share your thoughts with them here.
