Universal Language in Berlin Cinema

Esperanto

Sam Green’s documentary “The Universal Language” was screened at a Berlin theater early this November by Chuck Smith, an active member of the Esperanto community.

“I’m thrilled about this…it’s the German premier of my new film, The Universal Language. I’m happy that the the Berlin-Brandenburg Esperanto Association has been inspired to put this event together. I’m not an Esperanto speaker, but I greatly admire the Esperanto movement and am honored and thrilled to have this association. For more than 100 years, Esperanto speakers have been trying to make the world a better place, and I have tremendous respect their hopefulness, pragmatism, patience, and fondness for people.”

–Sam Green, director of The Universal Language

News from our friends

Dear Friend of Underground,

What happened to Indian summer? Here at Underground, we’re hovering around our space heaters and trying to type with mittens on (please forgive any tpyos). We were this close to building a bonfire with all our office trash, but that would make us huge hypocrites. After all, we just partnered with StopWaste.Org encouraging people to recycle at work, and they would probably recycle us if they found out. Check out our weekly video tips and social media campaign on Facebook – we offer different prizes every week to people who pledge to recycle.

All the prizes were awesome, but our favorite was definitely the signature sorbet flavor we created with Oakland-based Scream Sorbet named Pumpkin Guts. It reminds people to recycle their food scraps – if you need some reminding, look for it at their Oakland location or at local farmers markets. We can’t stop eating it. Maybe that’s why we’re so cold.

Best wishes,
