Dave Cerf and I are going to be screening/performing a short new ‘live documentary’ at the NYC MOMA this Sunday the 26th. The piece is about the Voyager spacecraft, an unmanned probe that was launched by NASA in 1977 with an amazing assortment of photographs, music, and sounds aboard; the thinking was that if Voyager ever comes across aliens, this will help them to know who we are. Of course, the Golden Record, as it’s called, is a hilarious and fascinating expression of a late 1970s cultural moment but also, through contrast, it says much about who are today. Our hope is that the piece is fun. We will be screening that along w/ a couple of remixed sections from our UTOPIA project – short pieces about Esperanto and also the world’s largest shopping mall.
This is part of the great Doc Fortnight program put together by Sally Berger. This screening is at 5pm on Sunday – so plenty of time to come check it out but still make it home for that award show on TV.
Hope to see you there.
