Voyager Spacecraft Live Documentary Screening

Voyager

Dave Cerf and I are going to be screening/performing a short new ‘live documentary’ at the NYC MOMA this Sunday the 26th. The piece is about the Voyager spacecraft, an unmanned probe that was launched by NASA in 1977 with an amazing assortment of photographs, music, and sounds aboard; the thinking was that if Voyager ever comes across aliens, this will help them to know who we are. Of course, the Golden Record, as it’s called, is a hilarious and fascinating expression of a late 1970s cultural moment but also, through contrast, it says much about who are today. Our hope is that the piece is fun. We will be screening that along w/ a couple of remixed sections from our UTOPIA project – short pieces about Esperanto and also the world’s largest shopping mall.

This is part of the great Doc Fortnight program put together by Sally Berger. This screening is at 5pm on Sunday – so plenty of time to come check it out but still make it home for that award show on TV.

Hope to see you there.

29th SFIAAFF Trailer Location Scouting 2011 in Dolores Park 29th SFIAAFF Trailer 2011 set in Dolores Park

On January 23rd’s sunny Sunday, Kontent Films and
Underground Advertising gathered in Dolores Park – cast, crew, partners and all – to shoot with the slow motion Phantom Gold Camera recording an incredible 500 frames per second. Many onlookers kept us company while the cast repeated their actions for three second takes – recreating multiple scenarios one would usually see at a San Francisco park on a gorgeous day. All done with the ultimate goal of creating a trailer to premiere at CAAM’s 29th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. The thirteen 3 second takes were narrowed down to one (Take 7) and went through the post-production process with the excellent folks at Elastic Creative. With graphics and 3-D effects added, the piece was finalized last Thursday February 10th. Can’t wait to watch it on the big screen!

We hope you attend the festival to view what promises to be a great line up of films. The SFIAAFF is one of the crown jewels of the San Francisco film scene, but really we know you’ll be going to watch the slow motion Phantom Gold Camera in action. The film festival runs between March 10-20, 2011 at San Francisco, Berkeley and San Jose venues. For more information on the screenings, please visit CAAMEDIA.ORG.

Thank you to everyone who participated in making this production come to life.

World Social Forum 2011 Dakar

Julie Cisse Interview for World Social Forum 2011 Dakar

On February 4th, Kontent Films Founder/Director Mark Decena and Camera Assistant Forrest Pound embarked on a journey to Africa. Waking up early to make a 6:00am flight can be brutal, but the excitement, nerves and everything in between gave them an adrenalin ready to film the World Social Forum 2011 in Dakar. We hope you enjoy these photos from their whirlwind of a trip, mostly taken with Mark Decena’s Iphone. More details following their experience coming soon.
